Engine and Filter Inspections (72795 miles)

Given the last confirmed BMW service was at 58k miles and the service computer was predicting the next oil service would be due in 18k miles even though the odometer was showing 72k, something didn't seem quite right. The service computer was showing a brake fluid change was expected in June 2015 and since this is every 2 years, that suggested the service indicator had been reset in June 2013, 2 months before I bought the car. Why would someone service a car and reset the indicator without recording the service in the log book? Conclusion - they probably didn't do the service...

Having concluded the car was due a service I decided to do a few inspections to see what was needed besides oil and filter. First, the engine air filter and cabin filters:

Engine air filter looks a bit dirty but is actually in good condition. Will replace at next oil service.

The filter has a foam pre-filter. I vacuumed this and the top of the filter before refitting.

What's this? Autumn leaves in the cabin filter housing on a car serviced in June? Hmm...

And the other side

The cabin filters are supposed to be replaced at the same time as the oil is changed so I ordered a new pair. I had to refit the old ones for now until the new ones arrive.
